Integrating Seminar 3.00 01/08/2019 05/07/2019 Lecture
Integrating Seminar is the culminating experience before a candidate earns the Masters Degree. The knowledge, skills, attitudes, big ideas, and values of the educational administration program are synthesized in this course.
Candidates develop a personal vision statement which commits the school and its services to total student learning and the highest possible standards of quality, productivity, and continuous improvement. Candidates also finalize an analysis of their own leadership style. The "Big Ideas" which will drive each candidate's principalship are identified and reflected upon in a major paper.
Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People are studied in detail as a paradigm or model for personal and professional leadership. The habits of personal responsibility, personal mission statement writing, time and self management, respecting differences and diversity, effective teamwork and empathetic listening, and taking care of oneself physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually enhance the basic code of ethics of the teaching and administrative profession. Candidates examine their own assumptions, beliefs, and practices.
Job search techniques, resume writing, and interview skills are taught. A job enhancement portfolio is produced in this course.
Also, the formative portfolio introduced in ED 509 Field Experience I is reviewed and assessed for progress. If the candidate is not continuing on for a license to be a school administrator, the formative portfolio is completed and assessed. Finally, the entry year portfolio, one of the designated ways to meet the requirements of the Ohio Department of Education, is introduced and candidates component Al. There is a minimum of six hours of field work required to complete the data necessary to write component Al of the entry-year portfolio.
This course is the culmination of the Masters program.
