Field Experience   3.00   01/10/2019   05/09/2019   Practicum/Internship

The Internship program is designed to give aspiring school administrators the opportunity to apply the administrative theory and practice which they have learned throughout the Educational Administration Program. ED 519 Internship is generally the last course a student takes before applying for licensure. At Ursuline College, the Educational Administration Program considers the Internship to consist of three equally important parts: 1) Successful completion of Field Experience I (ED 509). 2) Successful completion of six house of field component work in each of the courses offered in the program. 3) Successful completion of Internship (ED 519). The prerequisite for this course is important. The Internship experience is to be taken at the end of the candidate's course work, after completion of all other courses or completion of a substantial portion of the Administrative Licensure Program. Internship is a planned, in-school experience involving active participation in the application of knowledge and skills of administration to various responsibilities and challenges faced by the school principal. The Internship provides actual situations in the school for candidates to learn through first-hand experience. Candidates demonstrate the ability to accept genuine responsibility for leading, facilitating, and making decisions typical of those made by educational leaders. The Internship course is a six months experience, starting in January and being completed at the end of the school year. Each candidate must complete four projects in each of eight different areas of school administration totaling thirty-two projects and a minimum of 216 clock hours. The eight competence areas are: 1) Institutional Philosophy and Mission; 2) School and Community Relations; 3) Educational Leadership; 4) Curriculum and Instructional Leadership; 5) Staff Personnel; 6) Pupil Personnel Services; 7) School Law; 8) School Finance. Internship is an extremely demanding course. Studen
