Principles of Supervision 3.00 01/07/2019 02/18/2019 Lecture
The differences between evaluation and supervision are clarified. Strategies for hiring, evaluation, and assisting faculty and staff members are identified. Working with marginal teachers and staff members plus the process of termination are discussed. Emphasis throughout the course is placed on instructional improvement, individual growth, effective instruction, and clear communication. Treating people fairly, equitably, and with dignity are significant concepts in this course. Considering the impact of one's administrative practice on others is emphasized. High quality standards, expectations, and performance are stressed. Procedures for discipline of faculty and staff are studied. The idea of sharing responsibility and delegation to maximize ownership and accountability are pursued. Candidates are exposed to the significance of a variety of sources of information being used to make decisions. Supervision of Instruction includes six hours of school based instruction.
